Laing Avenue in come-from-behind win

Laing Avenue overcame Agricola 3-1 when the first annual Grassroots Foundation inter-ward knockout football tournament commenced on Monday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda.

Winston Rawlins opened the scoring in the fourth minute for the East Bank of Demerara side, powering his effort from just outside the area over the advancing keeper into the left hand corner, after collecting a through pass from the centre of the midfield.

Laing Avenue would level the score line 15 minutes later as Delroy Fraser netted with a header into the right hand corner of the net, after receiving a headed pass from within the right side of the box.

The Georgetown side would take the lead in the 66th minute of the second period as Fraser sealed his double, slotting home his right footed effort into the back of the net from the centre of the penalty area, following a perfectly placed Jermaine Junior right sided cross.

The come-from-behind victory would be sealed in the 89th minute as Agricola conceded a own goal following left sided cross that inadvertently struck both the defender and custodian before finally settling into the back of the net.

The feature showdown of the opening night saw West Ruimveldt mauling Leopold Street/Lacytown by a 10-1 margin.
