Webster wins Torginol Paints Medal Play golf tourney

Shanella Webster resisted the heat on Saturday to win the Torginol Paints Medal Play golf tournament held at the Lusignan Golf Course (LGC), East Coast Demerara.

Webster and Kalyan Tiwari both ended with scores of net 64 but

Webster edged out Tiwari on the countback.

Fazil Haniff took the third spot with a net 66 but again the countback had to be used to decide the fourth place finisher after three players ended with a net 67.

Janice Prince was eventually awarded the fourth place finish tying with Vijay Deo and David Mohamad.

Mohanlall “Santo” Dinnanuth continued his good form by winning the Best Gross prize after a gross score of 73 while the Closet to the Pin prize went to Brian Hackett.

Club captain Chatterpaul Deo duly expressed his gratitude to the ground staff.

“The good scores from players are a result of the course’s excellent condition,” he said, adding that credit must be given to them for the excellent job they have been doing.

Mr. Kemraj Dhanraj and other members of the Continental Group of Companies, were at presentation of trophies and, in his brief comments, Dhanraj announced the company’s involvement in the sport and stated that next year promises to be even better.

Vice President of the Lusignan Golf Club, David Mohamad, expressed gratitude to the sponsors for their continued sponsorship of the tournament and said that club members looked forward to playing in the Torginol Tournament annually and next year will be no different.
