UEFA awaiting wish list from CONCACAF

ST.JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC- President Michel Platini says the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) is awaiting a wish list from CONCACAF on priority areas of assistance.

Platini, also the FIFA Vice-President, made his disclosure in the wake of UEFA signing a memorandum of understanding with CONCACAF.

The confederation, the governing body for football in the North, Central American and Caribbean regions, said Saturday that the new agreement with UEFA would provide for technical assistance and support.

“It is a partnership with CONCACAF,” declared Platini as he continued on a swing through the Caribbean.

“We have to find out what are the needs. I am on this visit because I want to see”.

Platini’s fact finding visit has taken him to Antigua following visits to Barbados and Grenada.

The 58-year-old former French captain and international midfielder met with Barbados Prime Minister Freundel Stuart and Dr.Keith Mitchell the Prime Minister of Grenada as well as with football administrators in both countries.

The MOU with UEFA follows on the heels of a similar one signed between CONCACAF and Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Platini has avoided identifying a favourite for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Brazil but said the South American teams will be hard to beat in the region.
