Fruta Conquerors defeat Pele

Tournament hosts Fruta Conquerors defeated Pele FC by a 2-0 score in their quarterfinal showdown when the Namilco sponsored One Love football festival continued at the Tucville Community Centre ground on Friday.

Eon Alleyne almost broke the deadlock for the Tucville unit in the 22nd minute as his right footed curling freekick from just outside the centre of he box, forced a smart save from custodian Devon Charles to his right side.

Jermaine Junior nearly pushed the hosts into the lead in the 37th minute, but his right footed volley from the outside the right side of the area, went narrowly wide of the bottom left corner.

The shooting gallery would continue in the 58th minute as Odel Williams unleashed a powerful right footed attempt from 28 yards outside the centre of the box, forcing Charles into a full-stretched save to his right.

Williams would once again find his shooting range in the 63rd minute as he forced another smart save from Charles low to this left, through a dipping right footed 26 yard strike from the centre of the field.

Unable to fashion chances within the attacking third, Pele would eventually concede the go-ahead goal in the 71st minute through a Rafael Edwards header.

Lurking inside the area in anticipation of a left sided cross from a freekick, Edwards who was simply the rock of Gibraltar within the rear guard, powered his towering header into the back of the net, from the left side of the area.

The home side would seal their semi0final berth two minutes later as Dwayne Lawrence thumped his right footed effort into the bottom left hand corner, after stealing the ball off the leg of the final defender.

In the opening quarterfinal, Riddim Squad defeated Sunburst Camptown by a 3-1 margin.
