One newcomer in T and T squad to play Argentina and Iran

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC- One new comer has been included in the Trinidad and Tobago National senior squad preparing for two friendly international matches against Argentina and Iran early next month.

He is Gavin Hoyte the former England Under 20 defender and younger brother of current team defender Justin Hoyte.

Cardiff City’s Kenwyne Jones will captain the team which includes a host of players who have been part of the national team for recent matches including the back to back victories over Jamaica last November.  “Ideally we’d love to win the two games but we have to be realistic. We’re coming together maybe ten days before the game as we’re hoping to have a training camp with most of the players selected here from May 20th,” said head coach Stephen Hart.

“I tried to come up with the best possible names considering that the games are being played outside of a FIFA date and clubs are not obliged to release the players. But we’ve come up with a pretty decent list and I’m sure everyone will be very eager to do their best in the matches”.

Trinidad and Tobago take on two times World Cup Champions Argentina at the Estadio Monumental, in Buenos Aires, on June 4.  Four days later, they will play World Cup bound Iran in Brazil.

“Both Argentina and Iran will be comfortable as they will be fully prepared for a World Cup which starts a few days after our matches,” said Hart.

“But surely this is a wonderful opportunity for us to test our level of readiness against two great opponents”.

The matches are also part of Trinidad and Tobago’s preparation for the CFU Caribbean Cup, later this year, and the CONCACAF Gold Cup, next year.
