Leon Williams struck his second century of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/Noble House Seafoods second division two-day competition to guide the University of Guyana (UG) to an innings victory over the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) at the UG ground, Turkeyen last weekend.

Williams justified his captain’s call to take first strike by scoring 133 to post a total of 305-5 declared in 52 overs for his team. The batsman who scored a century in his team’s third round match against Everest Cricket Club at the same venue was supported by Nicholas Carryl (64) and Kumar Bridgelall (32). Andrew Clifford claimed 3-50 for GNIC, who, in reply scored 133 all out in 49.2 overs. Jermaine Grovesnor top scored with 35 while leg spinner Omesh Danram was the pick of the UG bowlers with 4-34. He received support from pacer Suresh Dhanai (2-36) and off-spinner Clinton Pestano (2-2).

Trailing by 172 runs, GNIC was asked to follow on, only to be dismissed

for 96 in 39.3 overs with only under-15 batsman Joshua Persaud making a significant score of 38. Danram followed up his destructive first innings spell by claiming 4-28 with Dennis Heywood also claiming four wickets while Dhanai picked up 2-20.
