West Demerara yesterday won the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) Under-17 title with a crushing eight-wicket victory over Georgetown with Ronaldo Renee scoring his second half century of the tournament at the Everest Cricket Club ground.
Renee was not out on 52 when West Demerara successfully reached their target, finishing on 90-2 in 19.4 overs. Renee, who also scored a half century against East Bank in the first round match at Wales, added 82 for the second wicket with skipper Travis Persaud (31). The pair joined forces when Renee’s opening partner Mark Jeffers was removed by Renaldo Mohamed for nought.
Renee and Persaud saw the total reach 20 in 9.4 overs before they accelerated, scoring 62 more runs in the next 7.4 overs. However, Persaud was bowled by Georgetown skipper Raymond Perez with four runs needed to complete his team’s victory. After Persaud’s dismissal, Renee brought up his half century with a huge straight six off Samuel McKenzie which also ended the game.
Earlier, West Demerara won the toss and continued the trend of fielding first by inserting Georgetown who were bowled out for 84. Juddell McAlister (23), Sherfane Rutherford and Darshan Persaud with 19
