Opening wins for Guyana, Jamaica and T and T

-regional U15 cricket tournament

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC-Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana and host Jamaica posted wins in the opening round of matches of the Regional Under-15 Championship here on Tuesday.

Trinidad and Tobago beat Windward Islands by six wickets at Kensington Park ; Jamaica defeated Barbados by three wickets  at Up Park Camp while at Melbourne Guyana romped to a 113 run victory over Leeward Islands.

Hal centuries from Joshwa Persuad (58) and Kevin Sinclair ( 50 not out) lifted Guyana to 216-8 with Marcus  Duberry  picking up three for 29 and Zawandi White two for 31.

White returned to hit a top score of 38 for the Leewards who were restricted to 148 for seven.

Jermuel Cabey scored 34 while Sagar Hetheramani was the top wickettaker for Guyana with three for 40.

Meantime powerful half centuries from Raewin Senior and Kevin O’ Brian steered host Jamaica to victory over Barbados.

Joshua Corbin 43, Jadan Jones 33, and Kilano Brathwaite was not out on 26 as the Bajans posted a competitive 219 for eight. The top bowlers for the Jamaicans were Raewin Senior 3-38 and Duke Reid 2-37. Senior led the chase with a well played 69 while Sinclair supported well with an unbeaten 50.

Nico Reifer 2-20 and Nyeem Young 2-45 emerged the top bowlers for Barbados.

In the other fixture, Te-Shawn Alleyne, Nathniel Mc David, Avinash Mahabirsingh and Kirstan Kallicharan grabbed two wickets each to contain Windward Islands to 130-9

John Eugene was the brightest spark in the Windwards batting, with a top score of 57. Trinidad and Tobago coasted to victory at 134 for four, inspired by a knock of 44 from Niall O’Brien and 27 from Paul Stirling.
