Headquarters repeat as GPF champions

In a remarkable display of speed, strength, stamina and leaping ability, Headquarters track and field team repeated as champions of the annual Police Inter-Division Championships Friday night at Eve Leary Ground.

Headquarters tallied 501 points to defeat ‘A’ Division (472 points).

‘B’ Division finished in the cellar on a meagre 191 points.

Throughout the three-day championships, the victors threw, leaped and ran away with most of the events while placing in the top five in many of the others.

Meanwhile, Guyana accrued 472 points to finish in the top podium spot for the international segment. Trinidad and Tobago was a distant first runner up (150 points) followed by Antigua (30 points), St. Vincent (25 points) and Suriname (11 points).

For the individual honours, ‘A’ Divisions’ Shawn Semple who blazed to victories in the ‘A’ class men’s 100m and 200m races was adjudged the ‘A’ class male champion athlete. On the distaff side, Janella Jonas of ‘C’ Division, was announced winner of the female champion athlete award.

The meet’s fastest man, Tevin Garraway, who clocked 10.5s to win the Invitational 100m ahead of Kevin Abbensetts (10.6s) and Kenneth Semple (11.0s) took home the trophy for the Male Youth Club Athlete.

Following the event, Commissioner of Police (Ag), Seelall Persaud mentioned that Headquarters along with the standout athletes of the meet will be rewarded for their performances.
