Badminton players suffer mixed fortunes at C/bean C/ships

Guyana’s badminton players endured mixed fortunes when the singles competition of the Caribbean regional Badminton Championships (CAREBACO) got underway in Jamaica.

In matches at the Alfred Sangster Auditorium University of Technology, Kingston, Guyana’s Narayan Ramdhani reached the quarter-finals of the boys’ U17 singles competition.

Ramdhani defeated Shamar Hunter of Jamaica 21-8, 21-7 to reach the quarter-finals but Guyana’s Jonathan Mangra lost to Matthew Lee of Jamaica 19-21, 15-21.

In the Under-19 boys’ singles Ronald Chang Yuen lost to Sabeel Foster of Barbados 3-21, 7-21 but in the Open men’s singles, Christopher Persaud defeated Allantae Daley of Jamaica 22-24, 21-10, 21-14

Guyana’s Ambika Ramraj too lost to Christina Hastings of Jamaica 13-21, 14-21 in the girls’ U17 singles.

Meanwhile Guyana’s Priyanna Ramdhani is the number one seed in the girls’ Under-13 singles and number two in the girls’ Under-15 doubles where she has teamed up with Amanda Haywood of Barbados while Narayan Ramdhani is the number two seed in the boys Under-17 singles and along with Jonathan Mangra are the number one seed in the boys’ Under-17 doubles.
