GNIC fails to score outright win over TSC

The Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) narrowly missed out on an outright victory against the Transport Sports Club (TSC) in their rain affected encounter of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/ Hadi’s World Incorporated first division two-day tournament on Sunday at the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) ground.

Destructive fast bowling from Darwyn Butts and Husbands took GNIC close to an outright victory as the bowlers complimented each other for 12 wickets in the match. Butts collected seven wickets while his new ball partner took five as the batting woes continued at the first division level. With one day’s play available after the entire first day on Saturday was washed out, the TSC batsmen failed to utilize the opportunity that was granted.

Meanwhile GNIC batting was off to a good start as former national U-19 player Richardson (89) shared in an opening stand worth 126 runs with national U-15 batsman Kurt Lovell (26). After Richardson and Lovell were removed by Ross, Clyde Butts (45) and Dick (42) propelled GNIC to its eventual score.

Kevin Ross and Jonathan Alphonso took 3-86 and 2-48 respectively.

TSC in their first innings made 96 all out in 22.4 overs with Ryan Hemraj 26 and Alphonso 25 not out, the top scorers.

Christian Husbands 5-37 and Darwyn Butts 2-17 were the main wicket takers. TSC, in their second innings were 73-7 after 16 overs with Hemraj 26 and Alphonso 16 not out the major contributors while Darwyn Butts took 5-22.

If the TSC side had lost the match inside one day, it would have been a catastrophe at the highest level of cricket in the city. It remains a fact that the bowlers are dominating while the batsmen continue to struggle.
