Barnwell named Demerara skipper

20140716raj nannanAll-rounder Chris Barnwell was yesterday named captain of the Demerara team ahead of next week’s Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) 50-over Inter-county tournament.

The right-hander, who played an integral part of the Amazon Warriors cruise to the finals, has Paul Wintz as his deputy.

Three other members of the Amazon Warriors, Robin Bacchus, Trevon Griffith and Steven Jacobs are in the 14 man squad named yesterday.

The side has both young and experienced players in Chanderpaul Hemraj, Shemroy Barrington, Zaheer Mohamed, Andrew Lyght Jr, and Rajendra Chandrika in the batting department.

The bowling is expected to be spearheaded by the seasoned Wintz while pacer Seon Daniels along with spinners Raj Nannan, Amir Khan and Yatesh Dhanpaul.

Barnwell, who usually finds himself on the outside of the West Indies T20 side will look to take his form from the recent Limacol Caribbean Premier League into this tournament. The Demerara team will be coached by former first-class spinner and current Coach Garvin Nedd while the experienced Clive Grimmond will be his deputy.
