Golden Masters wins Shew’s General Store aggregate dominoes competition

Golden Masters dominoes club edged Strikers Sports Club last Monday to win the Shew’s General Store aggregate three-team dominoes tournament.

The final round played at Dynasty Sports Club, Aubrey Barker Road,

Phantom amassing 81 games while Strikers Sports Club, who after the third sitting seemed totally out of the match made 75 games and Golden Masters 72 games.

Gavin Gibbons made 17 games and was supported by Jermaine Jackson and Terrence Wills with 14 games apiece for Strikers Sports Club while Clive Anderson and Dillon Griffith made 16 and 15 games respectively for Golden Masters.

Skipper Rawle Cameron made 17 games while Colin Downes and Charles Hooper made 15 apiece with Trevor Ambrose chipped in with 14 games for Phantom. David Patterson of Strikers Sports Club was taken down lover’s lane by Rawle Cameron of Phantom.

At the end of the third and final leg the scores were Golden Masters 222 games, Strikers Sports Club 222 games and Phantom 221 games.

Using the number of sixes scored to determine the winning team resulted in another deadlock with both teams recording 167 sixes each and it took the number of five games scored before Golden Masters were declared champions by virtue of scoring 10 fives to Strikers nine.

In the first leg on Tuesday at South View Tavern, Aubrey Barker Road, Phantom won with 77 games followed by Golden Masters with 73 and Strikers Sports Club in the cellar with 63 games.

For the winners, Frank Solomon made the maximum 18 games while Paul Persaud and Rodwell Phillips chalked up 15 and 14 games respectively for Golden Masters.

David Patterson with 17 games and Roderick Harry, 14, were the top markers for Strikers Sports Club.

The second round on Thursday at Strikers Sports Club, Meadowbrook Gardens, saw the hosts in a nail biting finish coming out tops with 78 games while Golden Masters made 77 games and Phantom 63.

Sydney James and Harry made 15 games apiece for Strikers Sports Club and were supported by Lyndon `Poison’ Boston and Neville `Cody’ Cadogan with 14 games apiece.

Rodwell Phillips, picked to play through the six sittings, made 30 games while Paul Persaud and Dillon Griffith contributed 15 and 14 games respectively for Golden Masters.

Colin Downes was the top scorer for Phantom with 14 games.

First and second placed trophies were awarded to the respective teams while there were incentives for the top players in each team which saw Dillon Griffith for the winners with 42 games overall while Gavin Gibbons of Strikers Sports Club made 40 games and Frank Solomon amassed 42 games overall for Phantom.
