Local players set to showcase skills ahead of WICB franchise tourney

As the inaugural West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Regional franchise tournament looms, local players will have a final opportunity to showcase their skills during the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) 4-Day Senior Men’s Inter-County Competition which gets underway tomorrow.

According to reports the WICB plans to have six franchises compete in the upcoming four-day tournament which gets underway in approximately two months.

This year will see 15 players contracted with 10 players from each franchise which is to be owned and operated by the six traditional cricketing territories.

The remaining five players will be selected from a draft pool of regional players.

There will be no player quotas in the second years when the franchises will be able to select their 15 players.

With their eyes on being among the 10 players from Guyana to be selected some 60 local players from Essequibo, Berbice, Demerara will compete in the four team tournament.

The GCB Development Squad join the traditional Inter County team, Demerara, Essequibo and Berbice in matches commencing tomorrow at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground and the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) grounds.

In the first round, newly-crowned One Day champions Berbice, will clash with Demerara at GCC while Essequibo will meet the GCB Development Squad at DCC.

The second round which is set for next Wednesday will see Essequibo take on Berbice at DCC and the GCB Development Squad go up against Demerara at the Everest Cricket Club ground.

The final round will get underway on the 30th September with the GCB Development Squad set to face Berbice at the Wales Community Centre ground and Demerara and Essequibo meeting at GCC.

Captain), Raj Nanan, Zaheer Mohamed, Ameer Khan, Rudolph Knights, Paul Wintz, Seon Daniels, Vishal Singh (Captain), Gavin Moriah, Joseph Perry, and Robin Bacchus. The Coach is Garvin Nedd and the Manager is Clive Grimmond. Berbice: Kandasammy Surujnarine, Seon Hetmyer, Narsingh Deonarine (captain), Devon Clements, Royston Crandon, Jonathan Foo, Anthony Bramble, Jason Sinclair, Veerasammy Permaul (v/captain), Steve Latcha, Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai, Romario Shepherd, Raun Johnson, and Keon Joseph. The Coach is Hubern Evans and the Manager is Albert Smith

Essequibo: Anthony Adams (Captain), Ricardo Adams (V-captain), Royan Fredericks, Kevon Boodie, Royston Alkins, Heimchand Persaud, Parmesh Parsotam, Tulsieram Premnauth, Shivindra Heimraj, Keon Davis, Brian Herbert, Mark Gonsalves, Mark Teryll, and Ricardo Peters. The Coach is Vibert Johnson and the Manager is Leroy Hall.
