Thirty-two teams set for next month’s Mayor’s Cup

Thirty-two teams will grace the respective fields for 1.8 million in cash prizes at five different venues during the upcoming Mayor’s Cup following the tournament’s organizing committee and the East Bank Demerara Football Association receiving approval from the Guyana Football Federation to stage the tournament.

Scheduled to run from 11th October to 23rd November, the knock out competition will feature 32 teams from Georgetown, East Coast Demerara, West Demerara, East Bank Demerara and Berbice, competing for a top prize of $1,000,000.00.

The runners up will take home $500,000.00 while the third and fourth place finishers will receive $200,000.00 and $100,000.00 respectively.

Patrons from each district will have an opportunity to view live matches at the five venues comprising of Victoria ground (ECD), Den Amstel (WCD), the National Stadium (EBD), Georgetown Football Club (GFC) and Monedderlust Ground (WCB).

Amongst the playing regulations, 1. Only clubs and players which are affiliated to their respective associations for the 2013-2014 season will be allowed to participate in the tournament. 2. The tournament is invitational and shall be called Mayor’s Cup and there is no entry fee required. 3. The tournament will be played on a knock-out basis. 4. The total prize monies will be $1,800,000.00. Those conditions among others are expected to be followed by the teams expected to participate.

The teams are Georgetown:- GFC, Western Tigers, GDF, Beacon, Riddim Squad, Conquerors, Santos, Camptown, Police, Alpha United and Pele.

East Coast:- Haslington, Golden Grove, Victoria Kings, BV Triumph, Buxton/Bakewell, Mahaica and Ann’s Grove.

West Demerara:- Eagles, Stewartville, den Amstel, Slingerz, Young Achievers and Pouderoyen.

Berbice:- Monedderlust, Rosignol United, Cougars and New Amsterdam United.

East Bank:- Grove Hi Tech, Agricola, Kuru Kururu and Timehri Panthers.

The venues are Victoria ground, Den Amstel ground, GFC, Monedderlust ground and the Providence National Stadium.
