PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC- Former Guyana and West Indies captain Ramnaresh Sarwan says he is anxious to represent Red Force in the forthcoming inaugural Professional Cricket league (PCL) which starts in November.
Sarwan, 34, is one of only two who will play for teams based outside the country of their birth following the inaugural West Indies Cricket Board’s draft in Barbados on Monday.
The other is Barbados all-rounder Raymon Reifer who was chosen by Guyana as a first round pick.
“I’m pretty excited, it’s a great opportunity,” said Sarwan.
“I have always been well received in Trinidad, so representing Trinidad is a great privilege and honour. To have Gus Logie as the coach, who has coached me since I was fifteen, I know I would be very comfortable and I’m excited to be a part of team”.
The newly revised first class championship bowls off November 14th and runs until March 23rd, 2015.
Sarwan, who has not played a Test in three years and an international match in over a year, says his objective is to achieve big scores to put himself in contention for a recall to the West Indies team.
“My main objective is to try and get myself fit to try and play in the 2015 World Cup,” said Sarwan during an interview on Sportsmax.
“The key for me is to try and get myself ready for the regional tournaments and I’ll make a very big statement there and then we would go from there.”
Red Force play their first game against the Barbados Franchise from November 14th at the Queen’s Park Oval, in Trinidad.
