Williams nets double as GFC brush aside Beacons

Georgetown Football Club (GFC) brushed aside cellar occupants Beacons 4-0 when the second round of the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Stag Beer first division league continued yesterday at the Tucville ground.

Jamaal Williams was the principal scorer for the Bourda side as he registered a double in the 45th+1 and 65th minutes. He was supported by Keiron Solomon and Lynden Dorway who netted in the 64th and 65th minutes respectively.

Due to the win, GFC moves to 13 points and fifth position while Beacons remain on three points at the bottom of the league.

Under the tutelage of Vurlon Mills and Faizal Khan, the Bourda unit featuring mostly under 18 players took the lead through a Solomon penalty kick to the right hand corner, after being given another chance following a Beacon player entering the area before the ball was struck. The lead would then be doubled moments before the conclusion of the first half as Williams netted, slotting his effort into the empty net after receiving a left sided Solomon pass unchallenged within the right side of the area.

It would then go from bad to worse for the Beacons side in the second period as Chris Galloway was sent off in the 63rd minute for using abusive language to the officiating referee.

The Bourda unit would quickly capitalize on their numerical advantage as Dorway netted one minute later, lobbing his effort from the centre of the field into the empty net, after pouncing on an attempted clearance by the Beacons custodian outside the box.

The score line would then be sealed one minute later as Williams netted his double with a simple finish to the empty net after being in a one-on-one situation with the keeper.

On Friday at the same venue, second positioned unit Fruta Conquerors continued their unbeaten streak, blanking sixth positioned side Northern Rangers 6-0.

Dwayne Lawrence led all scorers with a second half double in the 68th and 70th minutes while Rafael Edwards, Delon Williams, Eon Alleyne and Odel Williams netted solo efforts in the 41st, 57th, 82nd and 90th+2 minutes respectively.

With the win, the home side moved within three points of leaders Pele with 25 points while the Kitty-based outfit remains in the sixth place on nine points.

Guilty of wasting several goal scoring opportunities, the home side would finally break the deadlock four minutes before the half time interval through a well-placed Edwards’s header.

Lurking within the centre of the area, the imposing centre

half would leap above all challengers to direct his effort into the right hand corner, after latching onto a left side cross.

Forced to change their custodian following a collision with the opposing striker within the area, Northern Rangers would then fall two goals behind as Williams netted, lobbing his effort over the keeper down the middle of the goal, from 26 yards out in the centre of the field.

It would then become 3-0, some 11 minutes later as Lawrence found the back of the net. Culpable for several misses in the opening half, the nippy forward would finally come good as he buried his shot down the middle of the goal, after skipping past his marker within the right side of the box.

He would then seal his double two minutes later with a simple right footed finish to the back of the net, after rounding the advancing custodian following a one-on-one situation within the centre of the 18 yard area.

The goals would continue to come in the second half period as Alleyne found the back of the net, lashing his effort into the right hand corner from just outside the area, following a short pass from a left sided corner kick.

Williams would then seal the score line in the final minute of the fixture, placing his effort into the lower left hand corner, after receiving a flat left sided cross from Jermaine Junior.

Meanwhile, in the earlier fixture, third positioned side Sunburst Camptown brushed aside seventh positioned unit Flamingo FC 6-2. Devon Forde opened the scoring in the 13th minute for the Campbellville unit with a finish into the roof of the goal, after receiving a flat right sided Anthony Sancho cross.

Reshawn Sandiford would then increase Camptown’s lead in the 32nd minute compliments of a flat strike to the middle of the net from within the centre of the penalty box.

The score line would then read 3-0 in the 45th+1 minute as Sandiford netted his double, placing his right footed effort down the centre after receiving a right sided cross inside the area.

Camptown’s lead would continue to increase in the second period as Sancho etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 48th minute, with a left sided strike within the area to the lower right hand corner.

Forde would then grab his double in the 61st minute to make it 5-0 through a simple finish down the centre of the net from within the 18 yard box, after collecting another flat right sided cross.

He would then seal his hat trick six minutes later, slotting home his right footed strike to an empty net after pouncing on a loose ball unmarked within the centre of the box.

With the matchup clearly decided, Flamingo would finally pull one back in the 76th minute as Shevin Fordyce netted through a strike to the right hand corner.

Fordyce would then net his second of the match in the 90th+2 minute, stabbing his effort into the left hand corner following a goal mouth scramble within the right side of the penalty area. With the win Camptown move to 20 points while Flamingo remain on seven points.
