This programme will enable all coaches to shape the development of their players by integrating all performance-related parameters.

Only individuals fulfilling specific criteria were eligible to participate in the course.

The requirements for participating in the programme are; being a former player, coaching education (equivalent to a B-license at least), specialist in physical condition training in football and actively involved in football training of the highest level in the country.

Thompson, who is currently at the helm of local heavyweight Guyana Defence Force (GDF), is considered one of the premier local developmental coaches on the circuit.

In an invited comment, GFF president Christopher Matthias said: “We at the GFF are extremely happy for this offer by FIFA and CONCACAF. It bears evidence that FIFA is serious about the structured development of football so that the game can rise to its optimum level throughout the world.

“We are also happy that FIFA after receiving his qualifications would have approved of our recommendation and selected him to participate in this fitness course in Miami, USA.

“This is the opportunity we want to give all the coaches in this country to be able to attend international courses so that they will be better equipped to teach the students of the game and become technically and tactically correct,” said Matthias.
