Pele FC maintained their lead at the top of the standings, humbling Sunburst Camptown 4-0 when the second round of the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Stag Beer first division league continued today at the Tucville Community centre ground.
Jumaine Somerset opened the scoring in the 20th minute for the eventual victors with a header down the middle of the goal, after receiving a left sided cross within the centre of the 18 yard area.
Their lead would then be increased 18 minutes later under fortuitous circumstances as the Campbellville based side conceded an own goal, after the defender inadvertently directed an attempted clearance from a flat right sided cross into the right side of the goal.
Okeene Fraser would then add his name to the scorer’s sheet in the 42nd minute, lashing his right footed effort past the keeper into the left hand corner, after cutting back within the left side of the box onto his favoured leg.
The lopsided encounter would be sealed in the 64th minute as Marlon Nedd found the back of the net with a first time strike to the right hand corner, after receiving the ball within the centre of the box unchallenged.
With the win, Pele move to 34 points from 13 games and has one game remaining. Camptown on the other hand remain on 23 points from 12 games and have two fixtures in hand.
Meanwhile in the other matchup, home side and second placed unit Fruta Conquerors overcame a spirited showing from the emerging fifth placed outfit Georgetown Football Club by a 1-0 score line.
Kevin Barrow netted the game’s only goal in the 51st minute with a first time right footed finish down the middle of the goal, after latching onto a right sided cross within the centre of the penalty area.
Due to the win, Fruta Conquerors moved onto 31 point from 12 games and remain in the second position with two matches remaining while the Bourda based unit remain on 13 points from 12 games and also have two games remaining.
The action is slated to continue at the same venue with a doubleheader.
