Blake becomes Guyana’s second three star AIBA certified coach

Guyana’s Sebert Blake has now entered elite company in becoming a three star International Boxing Association (AIBA) certified coach.

Blake attended a one week AIBA course in Cuba during the month of August and recently received notification from AIBA confirming a successful sojourn to the Spanish speaking island.

During a press briefing yesterday at the Ministry of Sport, president of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA), Steve Ninvalle lauded Blake on becoming Guyana’s second level three coach noting that his achievement augurs well for the future of amateur boxing in Guyana.

GBA’s Technical Director, Terrence Poole is the other.

During Blake’s trip to Cuba, he was schooled in methods of AIBA Professional Boxing, World Series Boxing, the application of Cavilon Cream and other finer points of coaching.

According to Ninvalle, upon Blake’s return “he immediately applied what he learned because we are now using Cavilon cream.”

Cavilon cream is a substance mandated by AIBA to be applied to the face of all elite boxers.

Said Ninvalle “Elite boxers now do not use headgear and Sebert was able to teach other coaches how to apply that because he learned that in Cuba also.”

Blake, who is the chairman of the coach’s commission, thanked the GBA executive, his place of employment, GPL, the Ministry of Sport especially the Permanent Secretary, Alfred King and the National Sports Commission (NSC) for making the trip possible.

The new level three coach also stated that he is heartened to know that he is now more empowered to assist in the development of the fistic sport locally.
