Beacons FC down Renaissance FC 3-0

…in Stag Beer tourney

Beacons FC kept their hopes alive of qualifying for the knockout round, blanking Renaissance FC 3-0 in their final group matchup when the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Stag Beer Futsal tourney continued yesterday.

Hosted at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Homestretch Avenue, Chris Galloway broke the early stalemate in the seventh minute of the 24th minute engagement, rifling a flat right-footed strike from the right side of the field into the lower left-hand corner.

Galloway would then increase his side’s lead seven minutes later, slotting his first time right-footed effort through the legs of the advancing keeper down the middle of the goal, after receiving a right-sided pass from Kimba Brathwaite within the centre of the area.

Playing provider to this side’s second goal, Brathwaite would then seal the win in the 23rd minute with a strike to the lower left-hand corner after Galloway returned the earlier favour with a right-sided pass of his own.

With the win, Beacons move onto six points from three games. They will now await the result of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and Alpha United fixture to determine if they will progress to the next ground.

A win or draw for Alpha United in their matchup with the army side would secure Beacon’s path to the next round. Due to the loss, Renaissance remain on zero points from two matchups.

In the opening fixture of the night, Flamingo FC ended their disappointing tournament showing on relatively high note, defeating Black Pearl by a 3-0 score line. Sheldon Gorrick opened the scoring for the winners through a 10th minute penalty kick conversion. Awarded the spot-kick after Black Pearl conceded six out of the allotted five fouls per half, Gorrick would rocket his powerfully struck right- footed attempt through the legs of the custodian down the middle of the goal.

Quincy Bourne would then add to the Flamingo score line in the 14th minute, lashing his right-footed effort into the lower left hand corner from the centre of the field.

The result would then be sealed two minutes later as Gorrick completed his double through another penalty kick conversion to the left side of the net, following a clumsy challenge within the penalty box by the opposing goalkeeper.

As a result of the victory, Flamingo finished the event on three points from as many games while Black Pearl remain on zero points from their allotted three matchups. At press time the remaining six fixtures were being contested.
