Logie gives vote of confidence in new captain

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC- Coach Gus Logie has expressed support for the appointment of Rayad Emrit as the new captain of the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, now wrapping up preparations for the start of the new first class season.

Emrit replaced Denesh Ramdin who is expected to be missing for large chunks of the regional season because of West Indies duty.

Logie, a former West Indies batsman, says he is confident Emrit has the qualities required to lead T and T in the revamped regional tournament.

“Rayad shows good leadership qualities. Emrit has the respect of the players, no doubt about that. We will continue giving him all the support that is needed,” said a Logie after Tuesday’s training session at the National Cricket Centre, Couva.

“His most recent experience as captain of the Barbados Tridents at the Champions League T20 proves that there is no greater pressure that can be applied to any individual, especially at that level”.

In last year’s tournament, the Emrit-led squad claimed second position after falling just a point short of the top prize.

“Emrit played against the best of the best and he’s certainly equipped himself very well,” said Logie.

“I believe we are in good hands and we are looking forward to the season with much anticipation and expectation.”

The Four-Day squad has been undergoing intense training under the watchful eyes of Logie, deputy Kelvin Williams, and technical director David Williams.

The team will conduct final training sessions at the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) Grounds over the weekend before their opening clash against Barbados.
