Malteenoes trounces MYO

Malteenoes Sport Club (MSC) trounced the Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) by four wickets to keep their chances of qualifying for a semifinals position alive as action in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/New Building Society 40 overs second division competition continued yesterday at the MSC ground.

MSC successful chase down a modest target of 157 which was set by the visitors, who were routed for 156 in 35.5 overs.

Skipper of MSC and national youth player Steven Sankar led his team bowling attack, capturing 3-18. The leg spinner was supported by in-form left arm pacer Mark Cumberbatch, Vishal Narayan and Shaquille Moseley, who claimed two wickets each. Deon Mahadeo top scored for MYO with 29 while C. Ramcharan (26), Navid Ali (25) and N. Persaud (20) chipped in.

In response to the small target, MSC loss Troy Lewis (05) their leading run scorer in the second over. However, Delvon McEwan and former national youth player Narayan pushed the target to 43 before the former was removed for 22 after smashing five boundaries.

The wickets of Lewis and McEwan was the only scarce early in MSC innings as the pair of Moseley and Narayan, who joined forces after McEwan’s dismissal added 84 runs for the third wicket.

Narayan top scored with 53 while Moseley made 37 before both batsmen departed in quick succession. Kefa Naughton and Hakeem David was unbeaten on 16 and three respectively when MSC reached their target.

Bowling for MYO, P. Parsan, S. Ishmael, A. Wadzal and M. Persaud took a wicket each in their failed attempt to restrict the hosts below their score.

At MYO, Transport Sports Club (TSC) defeated Ace Warriors by 77 runs. Batting first, TSC scored 239 all out in 36.5 overs while Ace Warriors replied with 162 all out in 28.3 overs.

Sherwayne McPherson 947), Azim Azeez (41) and Sunil Singh (36) were the chief scorers for TSC while Arthur Macey and Dillon Azore claimed three wickets each for Ace Warriors.

When Ace Warriors batted their batting was affected by quality bowling from Azeez (4-30) and Clyde Hoyte (3-38). S. Rice and C. Dick were Ace Warriors chief scorers with 38 and 27 respectively.

At the Guyana Defence Force, Camp Ayangana ground, the Demerara Cricket Club 9DCC) defeated minnows Sophia by 10 wickets. Carlton Marques claimed 5-15 as Sophia were bowled out for 79. In reply DCC reached 80 without loss, with Sherfane Rutherford and Ronaldo Renee unbeaten on 45 and 26 respectively.
