Guyana lose 1-4 to Dominican Republic at CAC Games hockey

Team Guyana got their 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games (CAC) group campaign off to a disappointing start, going down to the Dominican Republic 4-1 yesterday in their Pool-B matchup at the High Performance Center in Veracruz, Mexico.

Agustina Birocho opened the scoring five minutes before the half time interval for the winners with a field goal conversion. She would then double her side’s lead going into the half-time break compliments of a penalty corner conversion in the 33rd minute.

Magalys Ortega would then make her presence felt for the Dominican Republic as she found the back of the net in the 44th minute of the 70th minute encounter through a field goal conversion.

The Dominican Republic would then extend their advantage to four goals as Lucia Navamuel netted a field goal five minutes onwards.

The local ladies would eventually pull one back in the penultimate minute of the match as Kerensa Fernandes found the back of the net through a goal field goal. With the loss Guyana, drop to the third spot within the group with zero points.

They will now faceoff with defending champions Trinidad and Tobago tomorrow at the same venue. The top two teams in the tournament will qualify for the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto.
