With most of the big names in cycling resting or on international duties, Team Coco’s elder statesman, Junior Niles stole the show and sprinted to his second victory of the cycling season.
Yesterday when Payless Variety Store, Star Party Rental and Hassan Mohamed teamed up to pedal off their third 11-race youth cycling programme at the National Park, the 41-year old rode away with the trophy for the feature 35-lap event.
Niles stopped the clock in one hour, 22 minutes and 28 seconds and also pocketed a sprint prize.
He bested Jeban Crawford and Jaikarran Sukhai onto the podium while Romello Crawford and his club mates Jamal John and Mark Harris filled out the top six rewarding positions.
Before the feature event, there were 10 other events.

At the prize giving ceremony, Mohamed thanked Managing Director of Payless Variety Store, Joseph Ramkumar and CEO of Star Party Rentals, Lennox Cush for the sponsorship of the event and the cyclists for participating in the meet and making the programme a success.
Ramkumar assisted in the distribution of the prime prizes as well as the trophies to the winners and the runners-up of the events.
In brief remarks, he congratulated all the cyclists for their participation and pledged his company’s continued sponsorship of the sport.
The cyclists will now take their talents to the open roads of West Demerara this morning to compete in a 50-mile road race. This event will be sponsored by the Banks DIH Limited under the Powerade brand.
Notably absent was Geron Williams and Raynauth Jeffrey. The two wheelsmen are representing Guyana at the CAC Games in Mexico.
