Knockout round set in Guinness Greatest of the Streets

Former champs Back Circle will faceoff with Albouystown-B from 21:30hrs in the marquee matchup of the Guinness Greatest of the Streets round of 16 stage today at the National Cultural Centre tarmac.

Brimming with confidence following their 3-1 win over Adelaide Street in the last round, the East Ruimveldt based unit will need another all-round showing from the likes of Andy Duke, Vincent Thomas and Phillip Rowley if they are to secure the win.

While they might not possess the household names of their seasoned foes, Albouystown-B will fancy their chances of claiming the win and will depend on the duo of Marlon Nedd and Roy Cassou to lead the offence, when opening whistle sounds.

In another high profile showdown, Festival City Warriors will lock horns with veteran unit Alexander Village from 22:00hrs.

Possessing the title of the event’s highest scoring side with 10 goals, Festival City Warriors will hope their foursome of Daniel Favourite, Eon Alleyne, Dwayne Lawrence and Solomon Austin can continue to fire on all cylinders when the battle commences.

Securing their spot in the knockout stages following a dramatic 1-0 win over West Front Road in their previous outing, Alexander Village will have to be at their very best led by the quartet of Shem Porter, Delon Williams, Leon Yaw and Wendell Pedro, if they are to be successful.

The final matchup of the night will also witness a humdinger of a fixture when crowd favourite Sparta Boss faces off with South Sophia at 22:30hrs.

Earmarked as one of the early tourney favourites, the East La Penitence outfit will attempt to live up to their current billing and will depend on the attacking prowess of Devon Millington, Eusi Phillips and Sheldon Shepherd to propel them into the next stage.

Earning a place in the knockout round as one of the best third place finishers, South Sophia will try to make the best of their opportunity and will require an improved showing from the likes of Shem Arthur, Joshua Kamal, Dwayne Lowe and Ryan O’Selmo, if they are to emerge successful.

Meanwhile in the fifth fixture at 21:00hrs, heavyweights Albouystown-A powered by the trio of Shaka Jones, Renault Fraser and Devon Dooker, will try to seal their quarterfinal spot when they oppose a very compact Globe Yard unit and their triumvirate of Kevin Lewis, Anthony France and Lionel Grimes.

The fourth matchup of the night at 20:30hrs will pit West Front Road-Gold is Money and their family connections of the Pedro’s, Wagner’s and Oie’s, against the always competitive Island All-Stars and their pair of Alpha McPhoy and Devon Hyman.

In the third fixture at 20:00hrs, Hope Street Tigerbay led by the trio of Calvin Shepherd, Dennis Caldeira and Rensford Coleridge, will match skills with North Ruimveldt and their combination of Gerald Gittens, Travis Grant and Joshua Browne.

The second engagement will then see a battle of the unlikely qualifiers when Cross Street opposes West Back Road from 19:30hrs.

In the opening showdown of the night, past winner Leopold Street led by the duo of Omallo Williams and Okeene Fraser will lock horns with the Odel Williams and Jermin Fletcher led Festival City Street Fighters from 19:00hrs.
