Hikers men, women in top form

Hikers men’s and women’s teams were in top form when the Diamond Mineral Water International Indoor Hockey Festival continued on Friday at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue.

Old Fort upset arch-rivals Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) 7-4 in their men’s divisional showdown Chris Low-Koan and Aderemi Simon led the winners with respective doubles, while Jason DeSantos, Shaquille Thomas and Stephon King netted solo efforts.

Stephen Xavier led the losers with a double while Orland Semple and Alan Fernandes netted solitary strikes.

Continuing in the same division, Hikers humbled the national U-19 team 5-0 compliments of a Robert France hat-trick and solo strikes from Devin Munroe and Andrew Stewart. The final matchup in the section saw Renegades edging Saints 4-2

Dylan Francis led the winners with a double while Dane Ramsammy and Jael St Louis supported with solo efforts. Netting for the losers was Joel Hunte and Yonnick Peters respectively.

Meanwhile, in the women’s games, GCC Tigers mauled Spice by a 5-0 margin.

Sonia Jardine and Kerensa Fernandes led the way with a hat-trick and a brace respectively. In the final matchup of the division, Hikers led by an Amanda Garnett hat-trick, downed Old Fort Shooting Stars 5-1. Completing the score line with individual strikes were Tekeisha Deleon and Makeda Harding.

Scoring in a losing cause was Carol Caine.

In the veteran’s section, Hikers edged Carib 4-3 compliments of a Jerazeno Bell hat-trick and a George Melville solo conversion. On target for the losers were Samuel Carty, Kevin Adams and Andre Durant.

In the final matchup of the division, Old Fort squeaked past GCC by a 4-3 score line.
