Singh hundred puts Jaguars in command over Red Force

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Captain Vishaul Singh struck his maiden first class hundred as leaders Guyana Jaguars took command of their fourth round match in the WICB Professional Cricket League against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force here yesterday.

The left-hander was unbeaten on 115 at the close of yesterday’s second day as Jaguars batted all day to reach 300 for five in their first innings – already a lead of 102 runs at Queen’s Park Oval.

Singh has so far faced 176 balls, in 229 minutes and counted 14 boundaries.

He received support from opener Rajindra Chandrika who got 60 and Barbadian all-rounder Raymon Reifer who scored 58.

Shimron Hetmyer chipped in with 31 while left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein led the T&T attack with two for 52.

Resuming the day on 27 for one in reply to T&T’s 198 all out on Friday, Guyana prospered as Chandrika and Hetmtyer stretched their second wicket stand to 71 before being parted.

The right-handed Chandrika faced 117 balls in 166 minutes and counted eight fours and a six, as he collected only his third first class half-century.

Hetmyer, meanwhile, consumed 58 balls and lasted 1-1/2 hours, hitting five fours and a six, before he was bowled by leg-spinner Imran Khan, trying to cut one too close to him at 84 for two.

T&T then struck another key blow before the lunch interval, prising out Chandrika to a catch at silly mid-off to send Guyana to lunch on 115 for three.

After the break, Hosein claimed the in-form Narsingh Deonarine to a catch at short leg for 21, to leave the Jaguars on 146 for four and T&T with hopes of making further inroads.

However, Singh combined with Reifer to dash those hopes in a brilliant stand worth 146 for the fifth wicket.

Reifer, a left-hander drafted out of Barbados, marched to his seventh first class half-century, in an innings spanning 168 balls, 188 minutes and including nine fours.
