Diamond Mineral Water International Indoor… Hockey Festival Hikers, GCC Tigers crowned champs

Hikers, Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Tigers and Hikers Veterans were crowned the men, women and veteran’s divisional champs respectively when the Diamond Mineral Water International Indoor Hockey Festival concluded on Sunday at the National Gymnasium.

In the men’s divisional finale, Hikers clinched their sixth title by crushing Old Fort by a 5-0 score line. Robert France led the winners with a double while Shane Samuels, Jamarj Assanah and Andrew Stewart completed the score line.

With the win, Hikers received the championship trophy, winners medals and the US$1,000 first place prize. Meanwhile Old Fort received the runners-up trophy and US$500.

In the earlier semi-final round, Hikers downed the National u-19 setup 4-1 compliments of a Devin Munroe hat-trick. Sealing the win with a solo goal was Assanah while Kareem McKenzie netted for the losers.

On the other hand, Old Fort squeaked past GCC in the second semi-final 4-3. Aderemi Simon was the top shot for the winners as he registered a hat-trick while Jason DeSantos netted once in the win. On target in a losing cause was Stephen Xavier, Orland Semple and Devin Hooper.

In the Ladies finale, GCC Tigers dismantled Spice by a 9-0 score line compliments of a hat trick from Sonia Jardine in conjunction with doubles from Kerensa Fernandes and Trisha Woodroffe. Completing the win with solo strikes were Ashley DeGroot and Dacia Woodroffe.

GCC Tigers collected the first place package of US$1,000, the championship trophy and medals. Spice for their showing received the second place accolade and US$500.

The third place playoff saw Hikers defeating Old Fort Shooting Stars 6-3. In the veteran’s final, Hikers defeated Old Fort by a 4-2 score line. Devin Munroe was the main scoring threat as he scored a hat trick while Jerazeno Bell netted a solo effort.

On target for Old Fort were Dexter Wyles and Chris Low-Koan. In the third place playoff, GCC defeated Carib Hockey Club of Trinidad and Tobago 8-4. For their showing, Hikers Veterans walked away with the US$500 first prize, championship trophy and medals.

Leading the way with a helmet trick and a double were Devin Hooper and Alan Fernandes respectively while Marcus Fiedtkou and Damon Woodroffe recorded. Scoring for the losers was Randall Ramsammy with a hat trick and Kevin Adams with a solitary strike
