Police hold two over taxi hijackings

Continuing investigations into a number of recent armed robberies in which taxi-drivers have been held up and their motor vehicles taken away, the police say they arrested two men yesterday who have been so far positively identified as the perpetrators of two of the robberies, involving the use of firearms, and an attempted robbery involving the use of knives.

At about 2020h. last night, the police say that four men armed with firearms entered a house at Bush Lot, Corentyne, and held up the occupants Valerie Williams, Rose Raphael, Bibi December and Shameer December and took away a total of $100,000.00 and a quantity of jewellery.

2AM bar curfew to begin this weekend

While pointing out that the scourge of heavy drinking is taking a toll on the country’s economy, Public Security Minister Khemraj Ramjattan yesterday said the 2AM curfew for bars across the country will be enforced from this weekend.

After four hours of deliberation, a jury last night found both Anthony de Paul Hope and his co-accused Ralph Tyndall guilty of murdering Colleen Forrester, whose body was found in a septic tank of a William Street, Campbellville house for which she was the caretaker.
