Digicel, Ansa Mc Al present uniforms to squash team

With the Junior Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) championship set to commence July 18th-25th in Barbados, Communications heavyweights Digicel and Beverage Corporation Ansa McAl yesterday presented uniforms to the Guyana team at a simple ceremony.

Digicel Event and Sponsorship manager Gavin Hope said that the entity has played a significant role in the development sport, noting “I was informed this is the largest contingent leaving Guyana to represent these shores and we want to congratulate the administration of the squash association because over the years we have seen the growth in the game.”

He added: “We have seen an increased number of players participating in squash and we want to commend them for that and I can assure them that our support will continue in the same vein especially as we see the continued development of squash in Guyana.”

Ansa McAl Representative Jamaal Douglas, during a brief invited comment, said that the company was pleased to be associated with the sport while noting that they will continue to contribute to its sustained development in the foreseeable future.

Team Manager Garfield Wiltshire thanked both organizations for their funding on behalf of the team, noting that without their continued assistance, the success achieved by the sport on the local and international circuits over the years would not have been realized.

The first batch of the team will depart local shores today while the second group w ill leave for the Land of the Flying Fish on Friday. In terms of the makeup of the male side, Team Captain and U-19 champion Nyron Joseph will lead the   contingent which also features Alec Melville.

In the u-17 section, Guyana’s hopes will rest on the shoulders of Ben Mekdeci and Alexander Cheeks while Daniel and Anthony Islam will feature in the u-15 division.

With regards to the u-13 division, Shomari Wiltshire, Samuel Ince-Carvahal, Demetrius De Abreu, Gianni Carpenter, Justin Lilico, Quinn Lilico, and Xavier Gordon.

On the female side, Team Captain and u-19 champion Akeila Wiltshire will lead the divisional challenge which will also feature Taylor Fernandes, Larissa Wiltshire and Gabrielle Fraser.

In u-17 section, the team will be represented by the duo of Rebecca Low and Sarah Lewis while Makeda Harding will be the lone representative in the u-15 division. The u-13 section will consist of Kirsten Gomes, Madison Fernandes, Haley Carpenter, Aliyah Persaud and Sage Gordon.

In terms of the other members of the management staff, long serving tactician Carl Ince will serve in his familiar role as head-coach while Tiffany Solomon and David Fernandes will act as the Assistant Coach and Assistant Manager respectively.
