CGX shelves oil drilling in Corentyne block

Given the steep decline in oil prices over the past months, Canadian oil explorer CGX Energy Inc has shelved plans for drilling on its Corentyne block for now and says its ability to continue as a going concern is dependent on additional financing being found.

No longer business as usual for city violators – Green warns

Mayor Hamilton Green yesterday announced that there would be zero tolerance for violations of the city’s by-laws “It will not be business as usual for persons who feel that they can mistreat Georgetown like they did for the past 23 years because we no longer have a ministry and a government that will tolerate the suffocation and the denigration of the capital,” Green told a news conference yesterday, shortly after he concluded a tour around the city.

Brazil police charge former top Lula aide for four crimes

RIO DE JANEIRO, (Reuters) – Brazil’s Federal Police yesterday charged Jose Dirceu, former chief of staff to former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, with four crimes related to his alleged involvement in bribery and bid-rigging at Petrobras and other state-run companies.
