Seawall teens identified

The couple found dead at the Kingston seawall on Monday have been identified as teenagers Kavita Ackloo and Ramesh Beharry, whose families were yesterday at a loss as to why they apparently took their own lives.

Ramotar ruled out maritime channel for Venezuela

During his term, former president Donald Ramotar rejected the idea of a channel through Guyana’s Atlantic waters as a means of settling the long-running border controversy with Venezuela and says that his predecessor Bharrat Jagdeo should not have voiced that option.

Some Mabaruma residents petition against township status

Following a District Conference hosted by the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) in Mabaruma on 18th October 2015, a resolution disagreeing with the government’s decision to officially declare Mabaruma a town in 2016, was presented and unanimously passed According to a PPP press release, residents of the districts within the Mabaruma/Hosororo/Kumaka Neighbourhood Democratic Council are of the opinion that despite the improvements over the last two decades, further infrastructural development and upgrades particularly in the area of utility services need to be realised before the community can attain the status of Township.
