Courtyard Mall gets new diner

Modest snackettes continue to spring up in Georgetown with startling frequency, an indication that food is one of the fastest growing services in the urban business culture. On Wednesday the popular Courtyard Mall on Robb Street witnessed the quiet opening of just such a service, which Proprietor Kumar Chintaman says will be seeking to corner its own share of the market.

Chintaman and his partner Sasha DaCamara have taken over the running of the snackette previously known as ‘Tight & Sweet’ and up until recently run by Georgetown businessman Jerry Bacchus under the brand Jerries.

On Wednesday Stabroek Business spoke with Chintaman on what appeared to be a slow trading day though there was a distinct tone of optimism in his vision for building “a service that people would appreciate.”

Changes, he says, will be made, not only to the menu but also to the general ambience. Chintaman already has plans for transforming the interior of the facility.

The food, he says, will be a revelation. Typical Guyanese breakfasts will have distinctly creole orientation and the midday meal – five different choices every day – will aspire to a standard that will attract people who like good food. Snacks, sandwiches, pastries and local drinks will all be provided for good measure.

Chintaman says he has already assessed the neighbourhood and is excited by the market possibilities.

Part of his plan centres around bringing the snackette out onto the Courtyard Mall itself, providing a sit-down dining arrangement. Once he properly assesses the market, Kumar says the he plans to introduce an after-work lime in the Courtyard, enticing workers in that neck of the woods to stop by and unwind.
