Banana-Dulce de leche Shake

There are times when dessert is preferred in liquid form. Lighter than ice cream and regular milkshake, this Banana-Dulce de leche Shake comes together quickly and you can adjust the sweetness to suit your taste. Another ingredient in this shake is milk, and just like the sweetness, you can choose to use a low, non-fat or skim milk to make the shake. However, if you are looking for something truly indulgent, use whole milk.

If you do not have dulce de leche, remember you can make your own using a can of sweetened condensed milk. While that process takes a while, it can certainly be done a day ahead if you are planning to make the shake for entertaining. Some of you may wonder if you can use the canned condensed milk instead of turning it into dulce de leche. Yes, you can, but the flavour of the drink will be completely different and so too will the colour.

There are no exacting measurements to make the shake, add ingredients, taste and adjust to suit your taste. Work in batches.

DIRECTIONS

Add bananas, milk and dulce de leche to the jug of a blender, cover, and blend until smooth. Dip a clean spoon into the jug and taste for sweetness; adjust to suit your taste, blend to mix.

Pour the shake ¾-way up into a class, top with ice and serve with an iced tea spoon (spoons that come with a long handle).

NOTES

The ice can be added to the shake while in the blender but I find that this dilutes the shake.

The shake can be made in advanced and be stored in a jug in a refrigerator; give a good stir before serving.

To make it an adults-only drink, add dark rum or some of your favourite crème liqueur to the mixture at direction # 1.
