Five more persons have been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and two were fined $7,500 each after pleading guilty.
In recent weeks, the police have been releasing details of those charged and their photographs as part of a campaign against driving under the influence. Questions have since been raised about how effective this campaign would be and about the size of the fine.
The police say that Steffon Primo of Roden Rust, Parika, EBE, was stopped and tested with a breathalyzer on 2014-12-15 while driving motor car PJJ 880 on the Leonora Public Road, WCD. He was found to be above the legal limit. He was charged and appeared at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court on 2014-12-18 where he pleaded guilty and was fined $7,500.
Andre Hossain of Lot 133 Meadow Brook Gardens, Georgetown, was stopped and tested with a breathalyzer on 2014-12-14, police say, while driving motor car PNN 5219 on the Leonora Public Road, WCD. He was found to be above the legal limit. He was charged and appeared at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court on 2014-12-16 where he pleaded guilty and was fined $7,500.
The police further said that Royston Mc Kenzie of Lot 208 Sisters Village, WBD, was stopped and tested with a breathalyzer on 2014-12-14 while driving motor car PSS 5148 on the Leonora Public Road, WCD. He was found to be above the legal limit and was charged and appeared at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court on 2014-12-16 where he pleaded not guilty. The matter is continuing before the court.
Deochan Lochan of Hubu, Parika, EBE, was stopped and tested with a breathalyzer on 2014-12-14 while driving motor car PRR 6146 on the Leonora Public Road, WCD. He was found to be above the legal limit. He was charged and appeared at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court on 2014-12-16 where he pleaded not guilty. The matter is continuing before the court.
Shivanand Ramkissoon of Lot 34 Tuschen, EBE, was stopped and tested with a breathalyzer on 2014-12-14 while driving motor car HC 3832 on the Leonora Public Road, WCD. He was found to be above the legal limit. He was charged and appeared at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court on 2014-12-16 where he pleaded not guilty. The matter is continuing before the court.
