Burnt girl, 12 and siblings in state care

– mother to face charges

The 12-year-old girl who was doused with hot water, allegedly by her mother over a telephone call on Tuesday, is now in the custody of the Child Care and Protection Agency (CCPA), along with her two younger siblings.

Their mother is expected to be charged in connection with the incident.

According to Director of the CCPA Ann Greene, the girl was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital by Child Protection officers, who were alerted to the incident. She added that the officers remained with the girl at the hospital until she was treated sometime after 3 am yesterday. Greene explained that it took a while for the girl to be treated, because the institution had to deal with patients based on how critical they were.

The girl was treated and released into the custody of the CCPA, where she met up with her 11-year-old and six-year-old siblings. The three are receiving counselling.

While it remains unclear what sparked the attack, the police have since taken statements from the children, in preparation for charging their mother.

It is reported that the mother had returned home and found the girl on the telephone. Subse-quently, the girl was allegedly doused with hot water, sustaining burns on her legs and torso.

The mother of the children is in police custody assisting with investigations.
