Minibus driver stabbed to death during row

Yamsham Ram, a minibus driver of Friendship, East Bank Demerara is now dead after an argument involving him and a man at Timehri ended with Ram being stabbed about his body.

Commander of ‘A’ Division Clifton Hicken has confirmed that a suspect is in police custody assisting with investigations.

According to a police statement, about 01:15hrs yesterday Ram, 43, sustained stab wounds about his body during an argument with another man at Timehri, East Bank Demerara. The injured man was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where he succumbed to the injuries.

When Stabroek News visited Friendship yesterday, neighbours related that they did not know much about the man since he lived alone. A woman who occupies a section of the building where Ram lived works in the interior and does not relate much to them owing to her seldom being at home.

The two-storey building was tightly closed during yesterday’s visit.

Ram, who residents said was also known as ‘David’ and operated a pink and white minibus, was not seen in the area during the day and while neighbours disclaimed knowledge of his demise, they said it was unusual for him to be away from home for such an extended period.
