Linden man on conversion charge after being loaned jewellery

A Linden man is now before the court after he was given jewellery to wear but allegedly did not return it afterward.

Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry granted businessman Lennox Hall $75, 000 bail after he denied the charge of fraudently converting a quantity of gold jewellery when he was arraigned in the city last Friday.

It is alleged that Hall, 54, of Lot 148 Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden, being solely entrusted with a quantity of jewellery to wear and return safely, fraudently converted it to his own use and benefit. The jewellery, which included a gold band, chain and ring, belonged to Kim Hodge and was valued at $311,000.

Attorney Gordon Gilhuys applied for reasonable bail to be granted, while stating that his client is not a flight risk.

Prosecutor Michael Grant had no objections to bail, which was subsequently set at $75,000.

The matter was transferred to the Linden Magistrate’s Court for February 10.
