Copter used in ganja operation near Millie’s Hideout

Four men have been held after a drug eradication operation on Saturday involving ranks of the Police Narcotics Branch and the Guyana Defence Force, with the use of a helicopter, in the Millie’s Hideout area along the Soesdyke/Linden Highway.

The police said in a press release yesterday that an area comprising about 12 acres of cannabis sativa (marijuana) plants was found under cultivation. The fields had around 80,000 plants, some at a height of about 11 feet. The fields along with two abandoned camps were destroyed.

A .22 Taurus revolver along with three shotgun cartridges and a cell phone were found in one of the camps.

A motor vehicle was searched along a trail and 550 grams of marijuana were found. Four men have been arrested and are in police custody assisting with the investigations. The motor vehicle has been detained.
