Two miners shot in Barima River robbery

Two miners were shot on Thursday night when armed bandits raided a mining camp at Cassawini Backdam, Barima River, North West District.

Randradin (only name), 57, of Port Kaituma, North West District, and Aaron Ramkarran, 37, of Johanna Cecelia, Essequibo Coast, were both shot in the attack, which occurred at about 11:30pm.

According to a police statement, two men, armed with a handgun and a cutlass, attacked the camp and demanded gold.

During the attack, Randradin was shot and injured to his left hand and Ramkarran was shot to his right foot.

Police say that Randradin and Ramkarran have both been admitted to the Pakera Village Hospital for medical treatment.
