Man refused bail over gold fraud charge

A man was yesterday remanded to prison after he appeared in court charged with fraudulently converting a quantity of gold and cash.

Royston Harry denied the charge read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The police’s case is that on February 19, in the Cuyuni River Harry was solely entrusted with $260,000 and 3.6 pennyweight of raw gold to be handed over to Romario Williams but he fraudulently converted the same to his own use and benefit.

Bail was refused and the defendant was remanded to prison until March 5, when he will appear at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
