Two gunmen yesterday escaped with $2.5 million from a businessman who was about buy fuel at the GuyOil Distribution Depot in Providence, East Bank Demerara.
Jaiprashad Ketwaroo of Alliance, Canal West Bank Demerara was robbed of his money after he was approached by two men on a motorcycle.
According to Crime Chief Leslie James, the robbery occurred around 12 pm. He said Ketwaroo was driving his truck in the vicinity of the GuyOil Distribution Depot when one of the bandits, on the motorcycle, pulled out a gun and demanded the cash.
After the robbery the men escaped on the motorcycle.
The matter is currently being investigated by the police.
