Water vendor on peace bond after admitting to obstruction

A water vendor was on Monday placed on a bond to keep the peace after he admitted to blocking traffic around the Stabroek Market Area with his cooler.

Akeem Lewis, 21, of Buxton, pleaded guilty to the charge of obstruction at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court 11.

According to the prosecutor, around 11:05 AM on March 2, 2015, a constable on duty on Water Street saw Lewis’ cooler placed in a position on the road that prevented persons and vehicles from passing. The constable approached Lewis and asked him if he was the owner of the cooler and he said yes. The constable then arrested Lewis and he was taken to the City Constabulary, where he was charged.

Magistrate Annette Singh subsequently placed Lewis on a six-month bond to keep the peace.
