Power system suffers disruption

The Demerara Berbice Interconnected System (DBIS) suffered a disruption of service at 09:35 am yesterday following the tripping of one of its main feeders.

A release from the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) yesterday said that the fault on the feeder caused generating engines at the Wartsila Kingston Plant to shut down, and the subsequent interruption in the DBIS.

GPL said that the power restoration started on the Demerara System at 9:45 am, continuing to the Berbice System with the last affected community being repowered at 10:26 am.. However, customers along Sussex St to Rahaman’s turn, Water Street, Kingston, North Road, Church Street, Access Road to Cornhill St and Lombard Street remained without electricity until 13:52 pm yesterday while GPL crews inspected the feeder.

GPL regrets any inconvenience caused.
