Thieves raid Cornelia Ida house in broad daylight

Thieves yesterday carted off about $500,000 in cash, jewellery and other articles when they broke into a home at Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara in broad daylight.

Vinood Roopnarine told Stabroek News that the robbery took place as his sister, Chitra and another occupant were sleeping in the house around midday.

He believes that the house was sprayed because they did not awake even though the entire house was ransacked.

The bandit(s), he said, “came through the back door and emptied everything in the house,” including US$1500 and a laptop computer.

He related that he was out at the time and his sister was only aware that they were robbed when she opened the door to let him in upon his return home.

“When she wake up then she see all over tumble up…” She then raised an alarm and Roopnarine went to the police station to make a report.
