Wounding accused remanded

Calvin Stacy was remanded to prison on Friday on a wounding charge after the court heard the victim was still hospitalized in a critical condition.

The allegation against Stacy is that on March 10 at Water Street, Georgetown, he unlawfully wounded Trenton Nedd with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or cause him actual bodily harm.

The accused was not required to plead to the charge when it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court 1.

Police Prosecutor Michael Grant told the court the defendant and the victim are known to each other and on the day in question at about 16:30 hrs, Nedd was walking along Water Street when it is alleged that the accused walked up to him and dealt him two stabs to his abdomen before making good his escape.

Grant objected to bail citing the nature and gravity of the offence and the fact that the victim is still in a critical condition.

Bail was subsequently refused and the matter was adjourned to March 23.
