Canal boy shot after accident ruckus

A 17-year-old boy of Canal No 2 Polder, West Bank Demerara sustained gunshot injuries to his foot while rendering assistance during an accident involving a truck and a car early yesterday morning in the area.

The lad was treated at the West Demerara hospital and sent away and reports are that the matter had been “settled” between his relatives and the shooter.

The truck which was on its way to transport sand, ended up in the trench while the right side of the car was badly damaged.

Reports are that the occupants of the car who had been consuming alcohol were engaged in a confrontation with persons who were trying to help those in the truck.

It was during this time that the man opened fire, hitting the boy to his foot. When this newspaper visited the family yesterday, they refused to comment and told this newspaper that “nothing happened.”
