Duo freed of robbery charge after evidence fails to convince magistrate

A man and a woman, who were accused of robbing a man three months ago were freed of the charge yesterday.

The case was being heard before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court 3 where a total of four witnesses testified.

The charge against Melville Campbell and Natasha Campbell stated that on January 2, at Guyhoc Park, Georgetown, they robbed Martin Atherly of a quantity of gold jewellery and other items amounting to $157,000.

The magistrate said she disbelieved the evidence of the prosecution and also that the victim saw who had robbed him. As a result, the matter was dismissed.

The defendants were represented by attorney Jad Vasconcellos and the matter was prosecuted by Prosecutor Shellon Daniels.
