Clothes vendor charged with escaping from police custody

An East Ruimveldt clothes vendor was refused bail on Tuesday when he appeared in a city court charged with escaping from lawful custody.

It is alleged that on February 27, while being in custody for a criminal matter, Kwesi Glasgow, 29, escaped from lawful custody.

The unrepresented Glasgow pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court 5.

The prosecution objected to bail while noting that Glasgow was before another court for three counts of armed robbery when he escaped. The prosecution also warned that if granted bail the accused will not return to court.

“My worship, I did just come from a hard day work and I see these police watching at me. Then one of them just come up to me and crack his gun and I just run away because I get scared,” Glasgow, however, claimed, while pleading with the court to be merciful.

After he was refused bail the case was adjourned until April 13, when it will be heard at Court 1.
